Jonathan Peacock QC, is a Tax Barrister in London, specializing in domestic (United Kingdom) and international tax disputes.
Jonathan Peacock read law at Oxford University, taking First Class Honours in 1986; he was called to the Bar in 1987 and started in practice in Lincoln's Inn in 1988. Jonathan became a Queen's Counsel in 2001. Jonathan's practice covers all aspects of tax law. In particular, he regularly advises financial institutions, multi-nationals and high net worth individuals on capital market and corporate finance issues, cross-border and international tax issues, pensions and employment/employee remuneration matters and VAT disputes. In the field of international tax, Jonathan advises on international and cross-border tax issues (permanent establishments, transfer pricing, profit attribution, entity classification, double tax relief, residence and domicile questions) and has appeared in significant double tax relief cases in the U.K. courts. He has been instructed in tax related arbitrations and as an advocate, adviser and expert witness in overseas litigation in jurisdictions in Africa, Asia and North America. He also advises on matters of non-UK tax law, typically in common law countries where the provisions or relevant legal principles are based on UK law. He frequently appears in courts and tribunals in the UK and Europe on tax matters and has acted both for and against the UK Government in tax avoidance matters. Jonathan was Chairman of the Revenue Bar Association (2013-2016) and is a member of the Bar Council, International Committee and of the Conseil des Barreaux Europeens (“CCBE”) Tax Committee.
