Bloomberg Tax Webinar Recapping Supreme Court’s Wayfair Ruling Now Available on Demand

Webinar Features Policy Experts Discussing Impact of Ruling Transforming Internet Sales Tax Landscape

ARLINGTON, VA (June 27, 2018)—Bloomberg Tax today announced that a replay is available online of its day-of-decision webinar on the Wayfair ruling, which overturned Supreme Court precedent that effectively prohibited states from imposing sales taxes on Internet retailers that lack an in-state presence. The roundtable discussion featured experts analyzing the ruling and discussing its impacts on state policymakers, Congress and online retailers.

The discussion focused on a wide range of topics, including the likelihood of Congressional intervention, the prospect of litigation, and whether states will require retroactive payments or seek to look beyond their state borders to satisfy their revenue needs and increase the burden on out-of-state companies.  The panelists agreed that platform providers, whose marketplaces sell others’ goods, were likely to move to collect taxes on behalf of their sellers. There was also consensus that online sellers must understand what their “footprint” is in states that they sell into and what the laws are in those states, as well as applicable deadlines.

“Alone among all tax research platform providers, Bloomberg Tax offered its subscribers day-of-decision analysis and guidance on the game-changing Wayfair ruling from tax policy experts representing corporations, law and accounting firms, government, and academia,” said George Farrah, Editorial Director, Bloomberg Tax. “Our team of editors and reporters will be closely following the responses from Congress, states, and the business community in the wake of Wayfair to ensure our subscribers can provide counsel leveraging the latest insights and intelligence.”
