Imke Gerdes is a partner in the New York office of Baker McKenzie and has over 15 years of experience in advising on tax law. Ms. Gerdes is a qualified German lawyer, one of the few lawyers qualified as a lawyer and Austrian tax advisor ("Steuerberater") and a qualified US lawyer. Ms. Gerdes is a member of the International Fiscal Association, the New York Bar Association, the German Bar Association, the Austrian Chamber for Tax Advisors, Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and served as vice president of the Austrian branch of STEP until 2014. She currently serves as vice president of the Tax Subcommittee of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association. Ms. Gerdes routinely handles Austrian and international tax law matters with a strong focus on transfer pricing and US outbound issues. She advises clients on the tax aspects company reorganizations, as well as M&A transactions, related tax structures and VAT. Ms. Gerdes also assists clients in tax audits, especially relating to transfer pricing issues, and competent authority procedures. Her impressive track record includes advising on the first cross-border merger in Austria.
