2023 Payroll Year-End Checklist
The start of the fourth quarter generally heralds the beginning of the year-end payroll reconciliation process, which extends into the following year’s first quarter.
To help employers navigate this often-complicated process, a year-end checklist was developed by Bloomberg Tax in collaboration with tax professionals at KPMG LLP.
The checklist improves payroll’s ability to complete the year-end process – breaking down essential tasks by month, starting with the first planning session in October to the year-end briefing held in March. Along the way, the checklist reminds employers when to review documents, file forms, and follow up with service providers.
Track critical year-end to-do’s, including:
- Testing 2024 calculations and Form W-4 self-service changes
- Communicating with employees about tax withholding status
- Analyzing employer portions of Social Security tax deferrals
- Running a mock year-end for Form W-2
