About Owen D.
In his 32 year career with Coudert Brothers, Owen focused on foreign investment transactions with the People’s Republic of China (PRC). He has created more than 100 joint ventures in China and established more than 150 subsidiaries for foreign investors.
Owen’s career is a series of “firsts” in China, including the documentation of the first equity joint venture in China, the automotive joint venture between General Motors Corporation and the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, now the largest automobile manufacturer in China; the first limited recourse project financing; the first U.S.-PRC petroleum contract; the first mining concession; and the first syndicated loan to China, among others.
In addition to his practice with Coudert Brothers, Owen worked at Jones Day and Greenberg Traurig. Owen is a professor of NYU Law School teaching a course on Chinese investment law at NYU Law School. After his retirement in 2016, Owen now appears frequently in U.S. litigation cases rendering opinions on Chinese law.
